Pastoral Crisis Intervention (PCI) - Course Description
Pastoral Crisis Intervention may be thought of as the combination of faith-based resources with traditional techniques of crisis intervention. Pastoral crisis intervention represents a powerful addition to traditional community and organizational psychological support resources. The purpose of this two-day workshop is to assist the participants in learning how pastoral interventions and traditional psychological crisis interventions may be effectively integrated. Time to practice and discuss implementation of techniques will be intertwined into the course.Training Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
· Demonstrate a familiarity with the psychological interventions as may be applied within a faith-based community.
· Define the concepts of crisis and Critical Incident Stress Management
· Define Pastoral Crisis Intervention
· Identify means of integrating ones Christian faith into crisis response situations
· Define the SAFER-R-PCI model
· Identify the most appropriate Pastoral Crisis Intervention to use with a given crisis event.
Continuing Education Credits:
The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) has awarded 1.3 CE units for this course, based on a formula of 1 CEU for every 10 contact/classroom hours. 12 CCE's for chaplains has been approved by the Association of Professional Chaplains . 12 CEUs for LPC/LCPC, LSW/LCSW.
About the Trainer:
Rod Ogilvie is the Director of Crisis Management Services & Training for Associates in Professional Counseling. He is an allied staff member for Linden Oaks Hospital at Edward in Naperville, IL, and has helped them develop direct clinical services focusing on integrating spirituality and faith into treatment. Prior to working for APC, Rod worked for 10 years with Rapha, a Christian based Hospital Treatment Program out of the Chicagoland area. He has provided trainings and seminars on numerous topics to schools, churches, professionals and retreat groups. He has been involved in numerous critical incident situations involving suicide, accidental deaths, abuse, robberies and other situations where CISM strategies were implemented. He was involved in helping individuals and groups at the one year anniversary of 9/11 for companies impacted by the terrorist attacks in New York City.Mr. Ogilvie obtained his Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College Graduate School in 1990. He is a licensed clinical professional counselor and is a certified addictions counselor. He has completed Advanced Training in Critical Incident Stress Management through the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation. He holds active membership and is on the Midwest board for the Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS), as well as holding membership in the ICISF and American Association of Christian Counselors.
Confirmations / Directions: This training will be held at Willow Creek Community Church: 67 East Algonquin Road, Barring ton, IL.Upon receipt of the registration form, we will mail or email a confirmation letter indicating the specific room and location of this training at the Willow Creek site, including directions. There will be no confirmations sent for registrations received one week or less prior to the workshop.Cost: $250.00 includes: Registration, “ Pastoral Crisis Intervention Course Workbook,” handout materials, coffee breaks, certificate of attendance from the ICISF, and CEUs. This course does not apply for a discounted price. Attendees are responsible for their own lodging, travel and meals. Class size is limited and early registration is encouraged
